Thomson Launches Smart TV Models in India
“The 43-inch Smart TV from Thomson runs Android 4.4.4, and comes with apps like YouTube, Netflix, Facebook andTwitter, among others”
The television industry in India is experiencing what the smartphone market did a few years ago – the launch of extremely capable devices at affordable prices. And while the smartphone front had its Xiaomis and Honors, the brand which aims to do so in the TV segment is Europe’s top home appliance company, Thomson. The brand held a successful launch event of its lineup of three smart TVs for the Indian market on April 12th in French Embassy. And the next day itself, Thomson’s first sale was an astounding success as it sold out all its televisions in a matter of minutes on Flipkart.

Thomson’s new smart TVs come in 32-inch, 40-inch and 43-inch sizes, but for this post, we’ll be focusing on the flagship 43-inch model, which offers a UHD 4K resolution at an unbelievable price point of Rs 27,999. Now that may sound good, but what does this TV offer to not only justify the “smart” tag but also hold its ground against its competitors? That’s exactly what we’re here to find out.
Fo starters, the 43-inch smart TV (43UHDXSMART) from Thomson is an Android TV that runs Android v4.4.4. It comes with the Aptoide app store so that you don’t have to go through the cumbersome process of sideloading an app into the TV every time you wish to install something. Talking about apps, what makes this TV earn that “smart” tag is the array of built-in apps that it comes with. These include social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter, streaming services like YouTube and Netflix and even Gmail to help you keep up with your unread emails. Of course, more apps like Hotstar and video, music, gaming and social networking apps may also be installed on the television if you wish to.
All this is powered by a dual-core CA53 processor clocked at 1.4GHz coupled with a Mali-T720 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage – ensuring that the TV can handle everything smoothly. The television also boasts Miracast technology, which allows its users to quickly stream content from their smartphones or tablets wirelessly. In terms of connectivity, the flagship model supports Wi-Fi and LAN, and comes equipped with two USB ports, an SD card slot, and three HDMI ports. All said and done, the 43-inch Smart TV from Thomson justifies its “smart” moniker. But the device is not just smart, it’s also a TV. So how good is it at being a regular television?
The TV comes with a slim profile and narrow bezels, which add to the viewing experience. Add to that the fact that the device uses an LG IPS panel with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz. So rest assured that the television will offer a rich experience while watching serials, movies or even playing games off a console. The company has also worked on the audio experience of the device, as it has equipped the TV with 20W speakers, which can be further be tuned for Stadium-like audio output with the built-in Sports mode.
As you can see, the flagship smart TV from Thomson offers a lot of features that are usually available on pricier televisions despite being easy on the pocket. For those interested, all three TV models from Thomson will be going on sale again on April .
